Reporting of divorce in accordance with Korean law
Bring a copy of family register, resident registration, report of divorce, resident registration card, and chop and file the documents with the court. Procedure: Both parties must appear in court and be confirmed of uncontested divorce. In three months, bring a confirmation of uncontested divorce to the family registry division and report the divorce to the family registry division of the local government.
Bring two copies of report of divorce and family register of husband or wife (in which case it would be a register of the wife’s family) and file them with the court. Procedure: One of the couple after the court appearance may obtain an official copy of adjudication and confirmation and submit a copy of each with the family registry division of the local government.
Divorce in accordance with foreign law
Bring a certificate of divorce issued by the foreign country or family register that indicates a divorce, report of divorce. If there was a trial, bring the original or copy of adjudication of divorce and report of divorce. Procedure: You may report the divorce at the Korean embassy or consulate overseas or the family registry division of the local government in Korea.
