Chungnyeolsa is the shrine dedicated to the patriots, including Song Sanghyeon, Jeong Bal, and Yun Heungsin, who perished in resistance against the aggressors during the Japanese Invasions(1592-98). These religious rites are performed in spring and autumn every year and are managed by the Allak Seowon(Private School, Private Academies).
The rites begin with meeting a spirit, proceeds with three rituals, burns a form of invocation, finishes with sending the spirit.
The superintendents of the rites, about 33 people, play different roles.
Music used in these rites is borrowed from the rites of Chongmyo which memorize the feats of the Kings of the Yi dynasty.
The rites have held by Confucian scholars for 350 years.
